The incident took place Thursday, June 6, when the detectives were attempting to arrest Rey Vazquez, 26, of Valley Stream, for the robbery that took place around 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, in Elmont, said the Nassau County Police.

A subsequent investigation had led detectives to Vazquez’s location and while attempting to place him under arrest, he violently resisted causing detectives to sustain numerous non-life threatening injuries that required treatment at an area hospital, said police.

Vazquez, who was eventually placed into custody, was charged with two counts of attempted robbery and assault.

He will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on Friday, June 7.

The original attempted robbery took place at the Alzaeem Convenience store located at 800 Elmont Rd. Police said that during the attempted robbery, Vazquez allegedly sprayed mace in the face of the clerk after he refused to turn over money, injuring his face and eyes.
